Stay Hydrated
Jul
In this hot weather I have had a sudden serious reminder of the importance of water. It made me re-read the book ‘Your Body’s Many Cries for Water’ by Dr. F Batmanghelidj. He was a medical doctor who trained in the UK at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, London University. It is a very interesting book and worthy of a read.
National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine recommends a water intake of 2.7 litres for females and 3.7 Litres for males. These volumes should come from both fluid and food intake. It is estimated that 20% of the intake will come from food but the rest will come from drinks. The amount of water we require will depend upon our body mass, temperature and activity. A good calculator for water intake can be found at: https://goodcalculators.com/water-intake-calculator/
There are conflicting views about whether tea and coffee have a diuretic effect. Therefore it is wise to balance tea and coffee intake with pure water.
Stay hydrated!
