Homeopathy and High blood pressure

Hawthorn2 (2)As Autumn is upon us we can see the bright red berries of the Hawthorn  (Crataegus monogyna).  There are plenty of academic papers linking its medicinal properties to the  cardiovascular system.  In homeopathy Hawthorn might be a remedy of choice for someone who presents with high blood pressure (hypertension).

An abstract highlighted in the Journal of Homeopathy 2015 by T. Phing reported a retrospective study on the efficacy of homeopathy on the treatment of hypertension.  The study was carried out using patients from the Shaad Homeopathic Hospital Complex and Research Centre.  They had been selected in 2013 after a medical diagnosis had been made.  Two groups were assessed after six weeks of treatment.  The first group (22) received Homeopathic medicine only.  The second group (19) received integrated treatment of conventional medicine and homeopathic medication.  On assessment and after relevant statistical tests no significant difference was found between the two groups.  The study concluded that homeopathy on its own was as effective as homeopathy plus conventional medicine.

It is a small study but demonstrates further investigation is warranted.
